Wilkins Junior High 8th Grade Requirements

The eighth grade activities that are planned for the end of the school year and graduation requirements pertain to academics and discipline. Read below to understand how the eighth graders may participate in the following activities if academic and discipline requirements are met:

8th Grade Events

  • 8th Grade Boat Cruise

    Thursday May 21, 2026
  • 8th Grade Dinner Dance

    Friday April 24, 2026
  • 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony

    Thursday May 28, 2026

To ensure a positive environment for our 8th-grade celebrations, participation in year-end events is tied to student conduct and attendance. Starting January 15, 2026, the following eligibility requirements apply:

  • 8th Grade Boat Trip: Limited to students with fewer than 5 detentions and no suspensions.

  • 8th Grade Dinner Dance: Limited to students with fewer than 6 detentions and no more than one suspension.

  • Graduation Ceremony: Students with more than 7 detentions or 3 suspensions during the final two quarters may lose the privilege of walking. In these cases, a parent conference will be required to discuss eligibility.

Attendance Note: Students who miss 30 or more days of school (1/6 of the academic year) may face retention and will be ineligible for all year-end activities.

Wilkins Junior High will follow the Retention/Promotion Policy as adopted by the Indian Springs School District 109 Board of Education. We do not wish to eliminate any students from the end of the year activities. We do expect all students to act with respect for themselves, those around them, and for our building.

As we look toward the conclusion of the school year, our goal is for every student to celebrate their achievements and participate in our upcoming milestones. These events—the Boat Trip, the Dinner Dance, and Graduation—are opportunities to create lasting memories with family and friends. It is my sincere hope as a parent and educator that no student misses these moments due to behavioral or attendance concerns.

Academic Standing & Attendance In accordance with Board Policy 5125.2, District #109 views grade retention as a final measure, considered only under extraordinary conditions after all other services have been exhausted. However, please be aware that:

  • Attendance: Students absent for 30 days or more (1/6 of the school year) may be considered for retention and will be ineligible for end-of-year activities.

  • Final Decisions: The Superintendent of Schools holds the final authority regarding retention.
